The word ESSENCE originated from
the Greek expression
“ti ên einai,”
which literally translates into,
“what it was to be” or “what it is.”

“My photographic initiative is to preserve life’s journey, freeze time infinitely and to capture the honest moments of those experiencing it. Capturing the very essence of my subjects both inanimate and living allowing the viewer to feel every element of the photograph, thus being placed at the precise moment at which it was taken.”- Emily Jaschke

Emily Jaschke is an award-winning photographer with several photographic and written publications, as well as exhibition credits. Since 2007, Emily has captured a diverse range of major civic, community, and creative events throughout the country. She specializes in branding, portrait, editorial and special event photography. She is driven by wanderlust, an intense love affair for artistic expression and the desired passion to document the journey. Her approach is organic, yet creative, thus allowing the beauty of the subject to speak for itself.

A strong believer in community, Emily frequently contributes services to Houston non-profits such as The Diana Foundation, The Orange Show for Visionary Art, and Second Servings, among others. Recent publication credits include Forbes, Vice, Thrillist, Holland Herald, CultureMap, Houston Business Journal, PaperCity, Houston Press, Houston CityBook, Houstonia, Travel Niore, Rachel Ray Magazine and Texas Monthly.

You might know her as, "EJ," the intrepid shenanigan enthusiast, proliferator of good vibes and protector of democracy. A lover of music, art, humor and the human condition. A hodophile, aspiring poet and novice culinarian (#EJsKitchen). Above all ... her greatest motivation and joy is her four-legged sidekick, Gunner Phoenix.

Emily Jaschke holds an BA Communication from the University of Houston.
